Introduction

Han-baek Inc., which is located in Jeju Island, the southernmost point in South Korea, was founded in December 2002 with a business goal of enhancing human health as well as increasing farmhouse incomes in Jeju Island. Han-baek Inc. produces wine using high quality bokbunja that were harvested from the coastal and mid-mountain area in Jeju Island. The products of Han-baek Inc. have been recognized with their high quality in the domestic market.

Winemaking

Only the well-ripened bokbunja that grew up in Jeju Island is purchased and is instantly frozen to be stored. After going under a procedure of the first aging, filtering and the second aging, bokbunja wine is bottled and packaged.

Bokbunja?

Bokbunja refers to a fruit of Rubus Coreanus, which is arching shrubs in the family Rosaceae. It blooms pink-colored flowers in May and its fruits are harvested in June and July, which become ingredients for drinks, e.g., juice and alcohol beverage, as well as for medicines. In oriental medicines, the bokbunja is known as enhancing visual acuity and invigorating tonic effects. The nomenclature is Rubus Coreanus and its English name is black raspberry. The bokbunja grows up in sunny foothills, whose major habitat covers East Asian region, including Korea.

Benefits of Bokbunja

Bokbunja has a property of listing body temperature, which improves sexual function for men and stimulates renal function for women as well as helps pregnancy by warming the womb. Saponin in bokbunja is effective in dissolving cholesterol, preventing aging, and protecting visual acuity. Moreover, the fruit also plays a role in protecting respiratory organs, which benefits those with asthma, influenza, and pneumonia.

The plant prefers light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils and requires well-drained soil. The plant prefers acid, neutral and basic (alkaline) soils. It can grow in semi-shade (light woodland) or no shade. It requires moist soil.
